The Lead Pan
This is one of the most widely used of all
steel-pans, it has the range of the soprano.
This pan traditionally carries the melody
of the steelband orchestra.
The lead-pan(known as the "Tenor pan")
was designed by "pan pioneer" Anthony-
Williams and modified by Herman Johnson....
The notes are arranged in a circle of perfect
fourths and fifths intervals.
The preceding design, which is also Williams's
had the notes arranged like a spider web as
seen in the photo below.
The Spider Web steelpan
The notes radiated from the center
in the style of a spider's web.

Brief information about the steelpan
I guess by now you probably know that the steelpan
( national instrument of Trinidad & Tobago) is the only musical
instrument to be invented in the 20th century, this has made
it the world's newest instrument .
The steelpan was invented in Trinidad & Tobago just after the
2nd world war(about 60yrs ago). If you compare that to other
musical instruments like the piano, violin, trumpet and flute etc.
which has been around for centuries, the steelpan is a very new
instrument.
The people of Trinidad and Tobago are proud to say we have
given the world a musical gift, a truly wonderful instrument;
"The Steelpan".
